If you have tried to purchase computer equipment in the last few weeks you would have likely noticed that the range has been limited and stock levels low. While this has been somewhat of an issue since the beginning of the COVID-19 lockdowns last year, the situation has been further deteriorating with no resolution expected in near future.
Initially, stock levels were impeded by the supply chain disruptions and factory shutdowns due to lockdown combined with the increased demand as people upgraded their equipment in order to work from home. While these factors have begun to improve, equipment manufacturers face a new problem: a worldwide shortage of semiconductors.
Like the name suggests, a semiconductor partially conducts current and partially insulates it. Semiconductors are used widely in electrical circuits ranging from computers, smartphones, televisions, refrigerators, washing machines and even medical devices and cars. The shortage is so critical that the global losses are expected to reach $77.6 billion this year for the automobile industry alone.
At CyberGuru we have seen estimated delivery times for some stock blow out from a few days to more than four months. Stock levels are predicted to remain low until the end of the year, so if you are thinking of buying new equipment before the end of financial year we suggest bringing forward your purchase to ensure availability.
