No doubt many have set personal and professional resolutions for the new year. As you are getting back into using your computer for work and home, we have provided five new year’s resolutions we suggest you do to keep for yourself and your computer this year:
- Schedule backups of your important files weekly
There’s no need to have to remember or put off creating your backups any longer. Using an automatic backup schedule, you can nearly set and forget backups (just run a test once in a while to make sure it is working!). - Run Disk Cleanup to remove unnecessary files fortnightly
Disk Cleanup is an application included with Windows that provides the ability to safely remove unnecessary temporary files from your computer. By removing these old or redundant files from your computer you can save disk space for more valuable information. - Scan for Windows and applications updates monthly
In order to improve the security and reliability of your computer, Windows and applications provide regular updates. These updates may provide enhanced features and reduce the chances of your computer experiencing problems. - Change your passwords to ensure they are secure bi-yearly
Passwords that you have used for a long time should be changed. Recent website security breaches from organisations may make you more vulnerable to hacking attempts. We suggest that you change your website passwords on a regular basis and make not be the same as other websites. - Install and maintain your internet security software yearly
Having a well maintained internet security software that is kept up-to-date with the latest definitions is your first defence against viruses, malware and other nasties. Ensure you are running the latest versions of your internet security software by running the appropriate update feature.
