For years Australian businesses have signified their Aussie identity through the use of .com.au and .net.au domain names. Coming in March 2022 businesses have a new choice: the .au domain name. For example, CyberGuru could buy the domain name cyberguru.au.
For existing businesses, buying your corresponding .au domain name will be important for protecting your brand. The .au domain name can then be easily redirected to your existing website.
If you currently hold a domain name in any other .au namespace such as .com.au or .net.au, you’ll be able to apply for priority status to register its exact match in .au direct during the six-month period from launch. We will let everyone know when this option becomes available.
With the .au domain name set to become available in March next year, businesses have plenty of time to consider how best to protect their brand and consider any new domains they may wish to purchase.
