Great Scott! It was “Back to the Future Day” on 21 October 2015, being the date that the time machine that Marty and Doc are transported to in the movie Back to the Future II. Some of the predictions made about the future turned out to be quite accurate and coming to life in reality.
In the movie, there are flying video cameras that we now refer to as drones, much earlier than many other futurists would imagine. There was also a scene of a window changing its background to show a different image. Another scene showed the voice-controlled televisions which are now in existence as Smart TVs. However, the most significant one in my opinion is the three-dimensional glasses, which are now starting to become more available, notably Google Class and Microsoft HoloLens.
Considering Back to the Future II initially screened 1989, some 26 years ago, it is fair to say a range of new technologies not seen in the movie come about, including the World Wide Web, smart phones and tablets, let alone how widespread and prolific it has become. It will only become more so in the years to come. As a fan of the movie (and you may be as well!), it would be interesting to see which ones come about in the next 30 years.
